Deeper and deeper…

I’ve just received 8 rolls back from Exposure Film Lab. Excitement is one word for it. This was the largest collection I have sent. I shot nearly 6 rolls on our recent cruise to the deep and stunning fjords of Norway through my two film cameras – my Pentax 645N and my Canon EOS 300, which by the way now sports a ‘nifty fifty’ which I purchased from MPB specifically for the holiday.

Anyway, I had promised myself to try monochrome film and I couldn’t be more delighted with the results. I bought two Ilford HP5 for my Canon and two FP4 for my Pentax. After being scanned by Exposure’s Noritsu digital scanner, the photos are still just so natural and to me it is true that B&W film captures something special in portraits. In fact, it was Ted Grant who said, “When you photograph people in colour, you photograph their clothes. But when you photograph people in black and white, you photograph their souls.”

Next purchase… (Or gift?) A home development kit….?
